Moving to standardize and improve the quality of medical devices utilized at health care centers throughout China, the country’s National Healthcare Security Administration is establishing a value-based purchasing platform for the submission and purchase of medical devices.
The platform, expected to be operational this month, will use standardized data to determine the properties of devices submitted for approval. As a central and dynamic repository of information, it is designed to broaden the information available at healthcare providers throughout the country. It is also aimed at reducing inappropriate care and identifying and rewarding the best-performing devices and providers.
While value-based drug purchasing is already being utilized in China’s drug markets, it is now beginning in China’s medical device markets too.
